Expensive fabrics were very common among the rich class such as velvets and satins. Fashion accessories were became a huge hit and were worn all over. For example, women wore berets that were covered in jewels. Women carried around folding fans that were very fashionable. During the 18th Century, men tried to go for a wider look, placing shoulder pads in their coats to give them a broader appearance. They also wore hats that were cocked to the side. Both men and women, howerver, wore wigs and makeup.

Rich Leisures

Visting the spas and seaside was common among the rich. They believed that bathing in spas and saltwater cured illnesses. Traveling became popular during this time. Wealthy men would go on 'tours' around Europe. Also, coffee houses and gardens were places to see and be seen in. They were centers for gossip, gambling, dining, and fireworks. Gambling and card games were greatly enjoyed. The rich loved coming together to socialize with cards in their hands and a pipe in their mouth.
